Most of us have heard of Gorilla Mind who have created a huge range of workout supplements.
Gorilla Mode is their pre-workout formula which has become so popular that it’s almost THE best known pre-workout product on the market.
With the huge hype around this supplement, we simply had to try it out. Here is our review, and all important things worth knowing about the Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout formula.
Before we get into the ingredients of the Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout formula and the right dose, we should take a look at some basic information of product weight, servings and what to look out for when it comes to potential supplement stacks.
On the label of Gorilla Mode, you’ll find the information for serving for 1 scoop and 2 scoops. One scoop weights roughly 15g, so doubled up for your daily serving of two scoops, this would be 30g.
Simply put 1-2 scoops of Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout in 12-14 ounces of water. Make sure to drink it 30 minutes before your workout for the best results.
If you are using Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout for the first time, start with ½ – 1 scoop or less, so you can check how your body reacts to the supplement.
You can then slowly increase the dose over time. However, do not exceed the dose of 2 scoops within a 24 hour period.
Bear in mind that Gorilla Mode is a stimulant-based product, so it can impact your sleep pattern if you take too much.
But if you want to particularly feel the stimulants, try to take Gorilla Mode when your stomach is empty. You’ll find that the difference of taking a stimulant product on an empty stomach compared to a full stomach is huge.
When you take Gorilla Mode on a full stomach, you benefit from all the effects enhancing your performance. However, your cognitive performance will drop the more food you have in your stomach.
That’s simply the way stimulants, and all products based on stimulants work.
Next up, we take a look at all the ingredients of Gorilla Mode, why you need them, and how much is good for your body.
This is the full ingredients for a daily dose of Gorilla Mode:
Looking at the ingredients list, L-Citrulline is the most prominent supplement in the Gorilla Mode formula, and it’s also the most effective as it helps to boost the nitric oxide (NO) in your body.
You may not know this but we naturally produce Nitric oxide in our bodies. As it dilates blood vessels, it can affect our cardiovascular health.
Dilated blood vessels increase the oxygen flow in our blood and this lowers our blood pressure.
As we get older, we produce less and less of nitric oxide and therefore need to make sure that we eat enough nitrates or supplements that contain nitric oxide. This keeps our heart and blood system healthy.
With the right nitric oxide levels, you can optimize your pump and up your fitness and physical performance.
A great bonus of Citrulline, it also increases muscular endurance, meaning you can not only improve your training performance but also last for longer.
A study even found that, compared to a placebo, Citrulline decreased muscle soreness significantly at 24 to 48 hours after your training session.
We mentioned already that our body produces Citrulline naturally, but where can you find it in our food? That’s quite easy. Watermelons contain a large amount of Citrulline.
Before you start running to buy the biggest watermelon, you should know that a 1.5kg watermelon contains only 3g of L-Citrulline which is basically the minimum amount you should take daily.
This means, if you wanted to integrate Citrulline naturally in your diet, you would need to eat at least 5kg of watermelon. Each day!
Luckily, Gorilla Mode covers a large portion of your daily Citrulline intake in just a couple of spoons.
You may already take creatine monohydrate as a supplement because it helps you improve your performance.
Supplementing with creatine is popular because it has proven to greatly improve muscle size and strength.
Creatine effectively increases muscle size by drawing water into the muscle. This also increases your body weight, and, of course, your muscle size.
This increased strength also allows you to use heavier weights during your workout, which, in turn, stimulates further muscle growth over time.
Studies have shown that you need a minimum of 5000mg of creatine monohydrate each day, so just take 2 scoops of Gorilla Mode.
The name pretty much says it: GlycerPump improves your muscle pump.
In the last, bodybuilders used Glycer powder to get up their pump but this has proven ineffective and usually quite unstable.
On the other hand, you can see and feel the pump effectiveness with GlycerPump, so it’s a supplement that has hugely grown in popularity recently.
Hydration is one of the biggest success factors when it comes to your workout.
If you decide to drink plenty of water (without any added supplements), you hyper-hydrate your muscles. However, your body naturally wants to dispose of this water by stimulating your kidneys.
With Glycerol, the active part in GlycerPump, you can avoid this and retain the hyper-hydration in your muscles for hours.
So with the GlycerPump in Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout, you will be able to hold up to 1 extra liter of water in your muscles.
The optimal daily dose of Glycerol is 3000mg which works out at 2 scoops of Gorilla Mode per day.
L-Citrulline and Malic acid are combined in citrulline malate. Some supplement companies opt to include citrulline malate as a whole, while others, such as Gorilla Mind, choose to add the two ingredients separately.
This has two simple reasons. First, they don’t want to just inflate their product by adding citrulline malate, and they are responding to new research which has shown that malic acid is in part responsible for the great benefits of citrulline as a supplement.
There isn’t a lot of research out there on the effectiveness of Betaine Anhydrous. Some of the few studies available think that it might help to boost endurance and reduce tiredness.
With little practical research on this supplement ingredient, it’s hard to say in how far it can improve your muscle growth, endurance or fat loss.
In my opinion, Gorilla Mind have added it because of its promising effects on enhanced pump performance.
The typical Betaine Anhydrous dose for your pre-workout is maximum 2500mg, which Gorilla Mode’s supplement formula definitely fulfills.
We already talked about Gorilla Mode being a stimulant, so L-Tyrosine helps you balance the negative side effects of a high caffeine content.
While there is little research, L-Tyrosine may help balancing your mood and cognitive functions.
L-Tyrosine is effectively the element that keeps your mind sharp and focused during a high stimulation period. It’s also responsible for improving your mood.
The Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout formula is right in the middle of the ideal dosage, between 1000mg and maximum 2000mg daily.
Another supplement ingredient which hasn’t been well researched, agmatine sulfate is believed to boost the production of nitric oxide in the body.
It’s also thought to increase muscle pumps and strength.
In the few studies on agmatine, it has been found that it induces nitric oxide in a much more effective way than many other supplements.
This improves your overall workout performance and helps to pump even more.
A couple of added bonus benefits. Agmatine has anti-depressant effects which help lift your mood. It also stimulates pain receptors which means you are much more tolerant to pain during your workout.
At 3500mg the recommended daily dose for agmatine sulfate, Gorilla Mode is definitely on the right levels.
Kanna is an active constituent of Sceletium tortuosum which is a plant growing in South Africa. There it was used as a traditional herbal medicine for anxiety and depression.
With Kanna helping to lower your stress level and improving your mood, it has made its way into the supplement industry over the years.
And I am sure it’s here to stay and help with cognitive functions during pre-workout training sessions.
It’s recommended to use only 200mg – 500mg of Kanna per day. If you exceed this dose, you might get unwanted side effects like headaches orr dizziness.
I guess we all know that caffeine is the main source of all stimulant based products, including our favorite coffee and pre-workout supplements.
To some of us, this might be a redundant question but aside from the obvious effect of keeping us awake, caffeine has also proven in countless studies that it can increase your training volume and power output while lowering fatigue.
Caffeine might be the biggest deciding factor whether you want to take one or two scoops of Gorilla Mode.
Generally, a healthy person can consume up 400mg of caffeine per day but we are all individuals, so the dose really depends on your own caffeine tolerance.
You might never have heard of Phenylethylamine (PEA) but to some it lovingly known as the love drug because it has similar effects to some banned substances.
PEA can significantly increase the release of adrenaline and serotonin, making it invaluable as a push and pump supplement for pre-workout sessions.
As PEA has a short half-life of 5 to 10 minutes, it needs to work in conjunction with the 350mg caffeine to be effective.
One of the lowest dose ingredients in Gorilla Mode, BioPerine is a form of black pepper extract which helps your body to absorb the other ingredients in the supplement.
BioPerine is essential as our body needs a way to absorb the other ingredients. The better your body responds to BioPerine, the better your pre-workout training.
The standard dose for BioPerine is between 5mg and 10mg.
Hyperzine A has shown to improve memory and cognitive function. Although relatively low in dosage, it compliments the other ingredients in the Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout formula.
Gorilla Mode comes in a surprisingly good range of flavors, and obviously it even surprised Gorilla Mind.
Such a high concentration of ingredients as in the Gorilla Mode formula can be tricky to give a great flavor but they really pulled it off.
From Lemon Lime and Cherry Blackout to Mojo Mojito and Tiger’s Blood (which is a mix of coconut, watermelon and strawberry).
Wanting to appeal to a more mainstream audience, Gorilla Mind also developed a Mango Peach and Fruit Punch flavor which tastes fantastic.
Another bonus surprise, despite its high concentration of ingredients, Gorilla Mode also mixes very well with other products. You just need to use a little more water.
Now that you know what’s in Gorilla Mode, it’s time to take a look at the cost. Gorilla Mind’s official website sells their Pre-Workout Gorilla Mode formula at $49 for a tub of 40 servings.
However, they also offer a discount for three tubs.
There are a few options where you can buy Gorilla Mode. You can get it from the official Gorilla Mind website or on Amazon.
Amazon ships the product worldwide but Gorilla Mind restrict the delivery of their products to the USA, Canada, Europe and Australia. Unfortunately they don’t deliver to Asia.
So if you want to order Gorilla Mode in Asia, you are better off with buying from Amazon.
With all this information, how did Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout perform? Overall, we think the ingredients are an excellent mix for a pre-workout supplement.
With the 2 scoop serving method you have enough flexibility to adjust the intake to your individual training.
